If you are an insurance claims adjuster, you might want to think about deployment equipment you will need for the job. Let’s take a look at some of the necessary items you don’t want to leave at home.
Laptop or Tablet
You will need to stay in touch with the latest industry news, organize your files, use necessary software, etc. Leaving your home without a portable computer is nearly impossible in this day and age. After all, there are so many things you can use it for. It is up to you to decide whether you want to use a laptop or a tablet. Both can help you do your job. So, pick the one you’re more comfortable with.
Smartphone
Phones have become an extension of our body. They are an excellent method of communication. You will use one at work to talk to other claims managers, insurance companies, your client, and so on. It is highly unlikely that you won’t need to use your phone during a shift. Be sure to have it with you when you start packing.
Tools
Based on the type of insurance adjusting you do, you might want to bring tools with you as well. This deployment equipment includes a tape measure, pocket electrical tester, chalk, batteries, a multi-tool, and so on. It mostly depends on how many things you can bring. In essence, pack everything you can carry that may help you along the way. The more you work in the field, the faster you’ll learn what is necessary and what you can leave at home.
Safety Gear
Safety should always be your number one priority. You never know what will await you at the location. So, it’s always good to be prepared. There could be standing water, sharp wood, collapsing roofs, nails, glass, and so on. Although it is impossible to bring every deployment equipment, you should at least carry a hard hat, gloves, and safety glasses with you.
Camera
Having a digital camera is one of the most important things you can bring with you. A picture is worth a thousand words. With a camera, you can capture the situation on the field. You will need to take high-res photos of the situation that will accurately capture the damage and condition you encountered at the location. If your camera has a charger, be sure to bring it with you. Otherwise, carry an extra set of batteries.
Personal Items
You can never know how long you will have to stay at the location, so you should carry a couple of personal necessities with you. These may include blankets, pillows, money, books (or something that will help you pass the time), a first aid kit, a face mask, etc. Always carry your adjuster license as well. You might need to show it to verify your presence.
Keep in mind that you should be prepared for any type of situation, so it’s always good to carry a bottle of water and something to eat. If you are visiting a location after a disaster, bear in mind that people might be lacking food and water, so try to carry some with you.
